Hello music program parents,

Classes are rolling along smoothly.  Many students are settling into a good routine of practicing & doing their homework.  They are improving rapidly.  I still however, have a few students who either think they will magically get better by just showing up to class, or are just constantly neglecting personal practice time.  This causes them to feel frustrated & discouraged when they can’t seem to keep up with the other students (no fun).  Please help me encourage practice time outside of the music classes.  It makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

There were a couple of fliers sent home with the students last week.  By now, you should have heard about the music program parent meeting Wednesday night, September 18th, from 6:30-8 pm in the band room.  If not, consider this your official invitation.  We have much to discuss and prepare for.  Don’t forget, this meeting counts toward parent volunteer hours.

The other fliers sent home were about the Carnival this Sunday in Planada printed on yellow paper.  The music program boosters will be working a food booth at this event to raise money for the music program.  I asked the students to get permission to hang them up in places where a lot of people could see it.  Please help the music program out by checking your child’s folder for these fliers and pin them up as soon as possible.  Recommended locations are, work, church, special activities, public events, anywhere many people gather.

Students have also been asked to help sell food booth pre-sale tickets.  These are small (about 3” X 4”) numbered tickets printed on pink card stock.  Tickets should be sold at $3 each however, any donation is gladly accepted.  Please help by asking family, friends, neighbors & co-workers to buy tickets from your child.  It would also help to invite as many people as possible to the Carnival itself.

September band fees are due.  A $40 donation at the beginning of each month is requested.  Students returning in consecutive seasons get a loyalty discount.  Mrs. Blackburn and I do not want any student to miss out on a music education at this school.  If finances are difficult, please let me or Mrs. Blackburn know.  We have resources available for every class.  Of course, any donation amount would be helpful.

I’m excited about the good group of kids we have this year.  I’m looking forward to many accomplishments and a successful year.  I’ll see you at the meeting Wednesday night.  Please respond with your availability.
